Your first task when you start back as A2 students, will be to re-create, re-interpret or re-present another photograph, painting or film still in a photograph which involves lighting the image to some degree. The artificial light can be combined with daylight - we will be continuing with lighting workshops once you come back. Obviously this task requires you to select an existing artwork to re-stage/create (e.g. Girl with a Pearl earring by Vermeer).
To begin your research for this task, make an independent visit to The White Cube Gallery, 25-26 Masons Yard SW1 (Green Park or Picadilly Circus underground) and look at the work of Gregory Crewdson who is one of the best photographers working today. Examine his use of lighting, sets, props and the relationship of his imagery to film and painting. Should be at least a double page in a new Unit 3 sketchbook. The exhibition closes on May 24th so I'm afraid you need to make the visit before that date. I can promise you the pictures will amaze you!
